Fields Increase For Super Speedway Showdown

The Wild and Wingless Speedcars are ready for action again this weekend as they head to the Perth Motorplex for the first time this season in the Grand Opening Showdown and it is sure to be a lung buster!

In what will be the first show of the Perth Motorplex season and the last show there before the huge Magic Man 34 race, the Speedcars will be pulling out all the stops as they try to get the advantage over the rest of the opposition early on in the season.

Even with small fields the Speedcars have shown that they can put on some amazing wheel to wheel action, so with a field of seventeen cars now nominated, the Speedcars should be a shoe in to put on the best action seen anywhere.

The seventeen strong field is chock full of super stars, with last weekend’s winner Kaiden Manders, the podium finishers in Lee Redmond and Phil Tremeer and QuickTime winner Todd Waddell just some of the racers ready to compete.

Manders put on a clinic in the feature last weekend, while Redmond was solid in second place. Tremeer put in a great effort to race his way into third, as did his brother Jason who raced into fourth, and all four drivers will be hoping for much the same this time around.

A heap of extra drivers are also nominated to make their first appearance for the season, including Dayne Kingshott, who did race in Brisbane last weekend, battling for the lead at one stage and taking it up to some of the best in Australia. He is scheduled to make his WA season debut this weekend in the Rod Bennett #26 machine, while other huge names like Paul Robinson, Neville Lance, Dave Perry, Glen Mears, Ryan Condren and Travis White are all also ready for action.

Chris Griffiths is also hopeful of competing after detonating a motor at practice at the Motorplex one week ago today which forced him to miss the opening at Ellenbrook last weekend. Steven Henderson makes his Motorplex return after having been a spectator for the last few seasons, while Jack Alfirevich is in a race against time to make the show after a big crash last weekend at Ellenbrook.

Adding some extra spice to the field this weekend is the addition of not one, but two interstate drivers! Brett Thomas from Queensland has sent his car over early in readiness for the opening round of the Pro Speedcar Week (PSW) and will be competing this Saturday to get a better handle on the track, while Angelo Karoussis is coming back once again from South Australia to drive the Perry Farcich #18 machine.

It is a huge field, chock full with talent and one would have to be pretty brave to predict a winner in such a stout field. So who will take out the Motorplex opener? Be there this Saturday to find out!
