Lanco Rained Out On Aug. 23; Labor Day Shootout Up Next‏

The crew that prepares the racing surface at Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway certainly got a workout on Saturday, August 23rd. Not only did they prepare the banked oval as normal in the afternoon, but the staff had to re-groom the clay after a fairly significant rain shower soaked the facility just as warm-ups got underway at 5 p.m. And then…

The crew was called back into action after hot laps and four heat races had been spun off when a second band of precipitation rolled through the “Valley of the Clyde”. Another valiant effort to reclaim the track went for naught as a third round of wet stuff moved in – moments after the speedway was deemed fit for racing by track officials and drivers.

At that point, with the track almost lost for the third time, there was little choice but to throw in the towel and declare the event a complete rain-out. There are now only two point-paying events remaining on the 2014 schedule for the 600cc, 270cc, 125cc, Sportsman, and 250cc Four-Stroke Micro-Sprints at CMMS.

Wristbands (for both racers and spectators) will be valid for either the September 6 event or the season finale on September 13. Saturday’s wristbands will not be honored at this weekend’s Labor Day Shootout.

Yes, that’s right…the final holiday weekend of the summer is upon us, and that can only mean one thing…it’s time for the biggest party/racing program of the year at Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, the annual Labor Day Shootout presented by Hyper Racing!

The Lanco Club’s annual two-day extravaganza of camping, fun and merriment, and clay tossing, wheel-to-wheel, twist ’em sideways action will take place on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31 – with a complete program of qualifying heats, consolations, and 30-lap A-Mains being contested each night.

Saturday is full of Wings ‘n Things, as the winged 600cc, 270cc, and Sportsman divisions compete in a dual heat race format with qualifying determined by passing/finishing points. The top 12 in passing points (in each division) will also square off in Knockout Group Time Trials to determine the top 12 starting positions in their respective A-Mains.

Sunday the 31st will be wonderfully wingless…as two-thirds of the program is run in non-wing fashion. The 600’s and 270’s will leave their wings at home for Sunday’s event, while the 125cc Micro-Sprints will race with wings bolted to the top of their roll cages. NOTE: the 250cc Four-Stroke Micros are eligible to run with the 125cc Class on Sunday.

Sunday’s format will be the same as Saturday with dual heats for everyone, a passing/finishing points system utilized to determine who qualifies from the heat races, and Knockout Group Time Trials for the top 12 in passing points to set the first dozen spots in the A-Main lineup for each class.

Gates open at 1 p.m. each day (pit gates and spectator entrances), with driver sign-in and pill draw ending at 3:15. That will also be the starting time for the drivers’ meeting, and warm-ups will begin at 3:30. The first heat race – each night – goes green at 5:00.

There is no pre-entry; simply show up each day and pay a $60 entry fee (per class). Pit passes are $40 (for a two-day pass) and $30 for a one-day pass.

Ticket prices for fans will be $10/day for adults, while Senior Citizens and Students will pay just $6 per day. Youth between the ages of six and 12 are $2.00 per day, and children under the age of six are free. And parking is always free at the Clyde!

Camping spots – while limited – are available by contacting Chris Snyder at 717-917-6805. There is a $25 fee for camping spots, and reservations will close on Wednesday, August 27. Campers will be permitted to move in and set up on Thursday, the 28th, beginning at 6 p.m.
